Blue Morning, Blue Day was written by Mick Jones and Lou Gramm to portray the heartbreak, frustration, and dark, tense atmosphere of a crumbling relationship. The song reflects on a rocky, broken-down romance where the protagonist feels unappreciated and turns to or consider other companionship.
I chose this song as it truly exemplifies the feelings I encountered when my relationship shifted from the love-bombing phase to the devaluation phase. This occurred in my relationship with a covert narcissist shortly after we were married and at four years into the relationship. It was a pretty sudden transition because up until that point in time, I felt as though I had found the perfect partner. In the blink of an eye, it appeared that I was facing constant criticism and that nothing I did was right in the eyes of my covert narcissist. As my close friends would attest to, it was a difficult and tumultuous time for me because I didn’t know how things changed so dramatically and so quickly.
